Q2 2026 brought a mixed bag for U.S. housing construction, and as someone deeply engaged with Salt Lake City and the surrounding counties, I pay close attention to these trends. Single-family construction remained under pressure in most areas, though the pace of slowdown eased a bit compared to earlier quarters—costs, interest rates, and market uncertainty are still key factors clients ask me about every day. Notably, the largest drops in single-family activity were seen in the urban cores of major metro areas (down about 14% year-over-year, for a fifth consecutive quarterly decline), but this was actually a slight improvement from the previous quarter. Meanwhile, smaller metro outlying counties bucked the trend with a 1% uptick after four straight quarters of declines. Rural areas slipped by 1%, and non-rural areas by 7%. Multifamily construction, on the other hand, gained momentum thanks to steady rental demand, offering some balance to the overall residential market. These patterns matter whether you’re thinking of making a move in Salt Lake, Utah, Wasatch, Summit, or Davis County, as they shape both opportunities and timing for buyers and sellers.

A little attention now can save you from big headaches (and bigger bills) once winter hits. Keeping your home safe and comfortable is just part of what I love about serving our Utah communities.
